Bear stole my deer
Written by Dick Enerson on January 30, 2010 at 11:49AM | Categories Big Game Hunting
This fall I had my most unusual hunting experience. I was bow-hunting for deer and a bear stole my deer. After shooting a nice ten point buck earlier in the season I was out to fill my doe tag. After being out in my stand for a short time a nice doe came in and I shot her. The arrow hit a little high and I was a little worried as I watched her run off through the woods. I figured things would work out well as I had a couple hours until dark. After waiting about half an hour I got down and started tracking her. After going about 150 yards I came to a fork in the trail. As I looked to my right there was a bear sitting looking at me about 50 yards away. It crossed my mind that he might be guarding my deer, but thought that was unlikely. I was surprised as I had never seen a bear in those woods before. After searching all over for my deer and not finding her, I starting heading over toward the bear to see if she was over there. As I got close he was still sitting there where he had been. Quite a bit of time had passed and it was starting to get dark. I thought it best not to get to close to the bear and possibly challenge him for the deer so I left for the night. The next day I went back to where the bear was and found the deer right away. It was right below where he was sitting, but now it was half eaten. I was bummed that I lost the deer, but at least had the small satisfaction that he had a good meal before going to sleep for the winter.

You are really lucky that he didn't think YOU were dinner too!!! I bet he wouldn't have been in a good mood if he thought you were there to take HIS supper! Interesting story
That is incredible, never heard of that before!
That's a great story! Not many people will ever experience something like that in their lifetime!
i do belive that your a lucky person to not have ended up half eatin as well
That's crazy!
Wow I hope I never run into a bear under them circumstances.
I am glad I don't have to worry about bear in KS! I'm not sure I would be in teh woods with someting that could eat me! Great Story!
Leaving before dark was probably a wise decision!
