My first buck with a bow:
Written by Jimmy Davis on January 30, 2010 at 10:41PM | Categories Big Game Hunting
The story starts on October 23, 2009 in Arkansaw Wi. That day and evening we had gotten a bunch of snow and I elected to not go hunting and was planning on getting up early the next morning to go film for a good friend. Well he decided that he didn't want to go until the next evening. So I said well I am going to my land in the morning and will come film for you that evening.
I got to my land and I hymned and hawed about taking the video camera with me because of the snow, there were still leaves on the trees and didn't know how much dripping there would be and didn't want the camera to get wet. So I elected to leave the camera on the front seat of the car and I wish I would never have left it there.
I was in stand for about 1 1/2 hours hours or so and here comes a nice sized doe in to the water hole. I decided I was going to take her and she turned quartering away at 20 yards. For some reason I left my mask on and I never shoot with it on and let the arrow go. I knew right away, or at least I thought it was a bad shot. It hit her just in front of the rear quarter and of she went about 50 yards and laid down.
I was so upset that I made a bad shot and saw that she couldn't get up so I was going to get out of the stand and make sure she was done. I looked behind me and there were a couple of doe, but I still had to go. So I got my bow ready and got my string up and I looked up and here was this awesome 8 point about 50 yards beside me grunting away.
So I threw my rope down and grabbed and arrow and got it knocked. Grabbed the grunt tube and hit it a couple times. He responded and came at me like he was on a string, Come running in about 20 yards and stopped, as I drew my bow he looked up at me and I froze. He then looked the other way and I brought the pin down on him and let it rip. Perfect double lung shot and he was off.
I heard him go through the brush and pile up not far away. I then looked over at the doe and saw that she had expired. Thankfully! Talk about going from lowest of lows to a high with in 5 minutes. I called my dad and my uncle who were 1 1/2 hours away and told them the news and to get to my land asap.
I waited for them to get there before I found the buck. It was really hard because this was the first buck I had ever shot with my bow. It was a great day and it was really special to have my dad there with me that day when I found my buck. He weighed in at 195lbs and scored 132".
I ended up making a better shot then i thought on the doe she was quartering just right and the arrow came out the left front should. I will never forget October 24 2009

Wow, what a story! Awesome photo and buck too!
Very nice buck.
sweet buck but the yellow leaves around makes the picture look awsome to congradulations on the deer though
Not many people can say they've shot two deer within minutes of each other during the archery season! Nice job!
