A Nice Finish
Written by matt doyle on January 31, 2010 at 11:26AM | Categories Big Game Hunting
Since I was finishing up my last year of at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and was only coming back for the weekends, I got very limited time to hunt. Archery season quickly slipped by which left me with only three days to hunt in the Pennsylvania rifle season.
Usually i fill my buck tag the first morning and its over but not in this case. It was getting dark on the first day and i saw a nice buck meandering through the grape vines higher up on the mountain so i pulled up my gun to scope it out and about that time, a gun went off sending the deer busting through the thick woods (it wasnt my gun). So i ended with a very disappointing day for the first monday. The first saturday was unproductive, leaving me one more saturday to fill my tag.
I had the whole day off to hunt so i hunted as hard as i could. I snuck clear to the top of the mountain through brush i know no one would attempt. I saw a few deer but nothing with a little bone sticking up through its head. So as the morning turned to afternoon, i began to lose hope and so i decided to just find a spot to sit and forget about it. I walked down a hollow and into a fairly opened area.
As i began to look for a tree to sit by, i heard a turkey calling so i decided i would just sit there and mess around and call a turkey for fun. It wasnt 20 minutes when i caught movement in the corner of my eye. Here came FIVE bucks in a line angling straight up towards me! Nothing was too amazing to look at, but i picked the biggest one and took this little eight point. Since my brother is a taxidermist, its hanging on my wall now.
No matter what happens in your day hunting or fishing, NEVER GIVE UP! i've seen a lot of last minute things happen. . .

Wow, who would have thought that you would see five bucks in a row!
Pretty amazing to see 5 bucks moving on their own during the rifle season!
Nice tall eight point Matt! Maybe I should try using a turkey call to lure in the bucks :)
thanks, fellas! thats the second time on the last two days of deer season that i saw 5 bucks running together. got an 8 point that time too!
That's funny, what are the chances of that?
Good job!
awesome hunt its always nice to be able to pick the biggest buck out of the group and take him...
Crazy to see that many bucks yarded up. you shot a good one there!
