“School bee” seeks new beekeepers

It remained exciting until the end. Schlieblich applied the all-or-nothing principle, according to which the educational project of the bamberger bienen-freunde is either financed or manovred out of existence. But then the chorus of jubilation from the organizers: "yes, we have reached the targeted funding amount of 8,000 euros", according to ilona munique, reinhold burger and other supporters of the initiative bees-life-in-bamberg.De. "The fixed amount was even slightly overfinanced by nature lovers with 107 percent (8520 euro)."

From 28. February
Since 28. In february the call for donations of the naturefriends, who do not want to accept the slow death of the honey collectors, was launched. It is well known that the bee population has been declining worldwide for decades, and the number of bees in the free state of bavaria has almost halved since the beginning of the 1990s. So the organizers hope for young beekeepers, whom they would like to reach through cooperation with the bamberg schools. "In order to improve the bee balance, we want to get children excited about this defensible little animal, but we need teaching materials as well as a curriculum that covers all subjects and grades", says ilona munique, who was still worried about her plan to save the volker 24 hours before the deadline expired. However, "so many local people, foreigners, politicians, traders and network friends have supported us that we can now teach bamberg's school communities about the importance of what is essentially the most important beneficial animal."

One third of the food
What people will face after the death of the honey collectors was already predicted by einstein with the words "once the bee disappears from the earth, man will have four years to live". Schlieblich according to the world food organization FAO, more than one-third of global food production depends on pollinating insects.

Munnerstadt: despite the heat wave, the rough construction site is booming

Munnerstadt: despite the heat wave, the rough construction site is booming

It is a morder heat. The safety vest, the safety shoes and the helmet on the head don't help to make the stay on the construction site more comfortable either. Nevertheless, harald schafer and thorsten grament are in high spirits. No wonder: at the groundbreaking ceremony a few weeks ago, the two project managers from the bad kissingen district office were standing on a piece of fallow land. Now they are standing on a concrete slab all around the walls are growing high and the ceiling is slowly closing in. And soon in this place will be the rough kitchen of the new vocational training center. Construction work is right on schedule.

Around 30 workers are currently sweating on the huge construction site. Despite the heat, helmets are worn, safety first. Around 40 percent of the cellar concrete wall is already on the completely finished slab. "The ceiling above the basement is 20 percent finished", says thorsten grament. About 85 to 90 percent of the future building will have a basement. All concrete parts in this area are impervious to water. A precautionary inspection in case the groundwater level should rise to an unusual level. In the small area where there is no basement, fountain ring elements will be placed and filled with concrete. This ensures the load-bearing capacity, explains harald schafer. And this variant helps to save costs. At the same time, lightning protection work is underway.

Where the construction site is now, people have already settled thousands of years ago. This circumstance was not quite cheap. The one from 24. October 2016 to 30. April 2018 conducted archaeological investigations will cost between 650,000 to 700,000 euros so. But this is required by law and the necessity was known beforehand. "The excavation documentation and the excavation report are currently being prepared and will probably be available in november, says harald schafer.

Obama backs victim’s families in effort to pass stricter gun laws

Obama backs victim's families in effort to pass stricter gun laws

Less than four months after the massacre at an elementary school in the U.S. State of connecticut, where 20 children and six counselors were killed by a spree killer, he pledged monday night in nearby hartford to keep up his efforts. Following his speech, he took a dozen members of the victims’ families on the presidential plane "air force one" to washington so that they could lobby for tougher gun laws there.

Obama advocates a nationwide ban on so-called assault rifles and other semi-automatic weapons. However, he is facing fierce resistance in the U.S. Congress, especially from the opposition republicans, but also from within his own democratic party. The plans of the weiben haus were further and further watered down in the draft laws at the behest of the powerful weapons lobby.

The state of connecticut had passed one of the toughest gun laws in the u.S. Last week. The sale of magazines for a particularly large number of cartridges has been banned, the ban on the sale of assault rifles has been extended and the checks on gun buyers have been tightened up. "You helped make this happen," obama told an audience of about 3,000 at hartford university. "Your voice, your determination have made this happen."Connecticut has shown the way. "Now it’s time for congress to do the same."

Swimming is more than spab

Swimming is more than spab

Five children try to swim a lane through the deep pool of the konigsbad with narrowed eyes and a tight grip on the board. They practice the correct leg stroke for the crawl. Barbara kestler, head of the beginners’ swimming program of the german life saving society (DLRG) in forchheim, explains the correct technique to the children beforehand at the edge of the pool. Knowing how to swim safely is essential for survival, because in deep water even a pool noodle is no longer any help. But fewer and fewer children can swim safely.

Swimming skills jerky

"In the district of forchheim, the non-swimming rate among fourth-graders was about 13 percent in 2016", says cordula haderlein, head of the forchheim school board. Bettina trondle, a teacher at anna elementary school in forchheim, adds: "when we take the second-graders to the pool at the beginning, only a good third manage to swim at least two lanes in the deep pool."

By the end of fourth grade, two to four children were still afraid to dip their heads in the water. Therefore, especially in the preschool years, parents are asked to get their children used to swimming.

Buses to be identifiable as vgn vehicles in the county in future

Buses to be identifiable as vgn vehicles in the county in future

In the future, the buses that run through the district of habberge in the nurnberg region (VGN) will be clearly recognizable.

As part of the local transport plan, the district council has decided on a uniform design for all new public buses to be purchased by the transport companies. A pioneering role is played by the transport company "bengel-reisen" in wonfurt, which designed the first bus as specified in the colors weib-grun as well as with the logo of the VGN and the district habberge, as the district office in habfurt communicated. The manager horst bengel presented the result to the district administrator wilhelm schneider on tuesday. The district administrator was enthusiastic about the implementation: "this looks very good. The design is successful all around."

New logo, new perspective

The county hopes that the uniform design of the building will increase the use of public transport. Until now, it was not uncommon for people to think that the buses operating in the habberge district were school buses that were not accessible to the rest of the population. One of the factors contributing to this view was the fact that many of the opnv’s routes use buses with a design that is determined solely by the appearance of the respective transport company.

Effeltrich schoolchildren learn how to program

Effeltrich schoolchildren learn how to program

Thanks to a donation from the sparkasse forchheim, the effeltrich elementary school has acquired five laptops and a classic set of calliope minicomputers. The check for 3100 euros was presented by jurgen klaus and nicole mainusch from the effeltrich branch of the savings bank during a small ceremony prepared by principal silke schur.

Some of the students in the afternoon programming course had the task of explaining to the audience what a calliope is and what it can do. They showed off the seven-by-eight-square-centimeter calliope minicomputers with their control buttons, sensors and circuits and were visibly proud to be able to report that, thanks to successful programming, they can be used, for example, as a pedometer, speedometer, spirit level or alarm system.

In greek mythology, calliope is the daughter of the god zeus and one of the nine muses. Today, the name is used in many countries: it means "the one with the gentle voice".

Girls conquer the world of men

Girls conquer the world of men

Julia does not find it disgusting here at all. She has also long since become accustomed to the smell. After all, she has been here since 7 a.M. That is why she already knows so much about it. She confidently puts on her blue protective gloves and grabs the crested mug with the four-meter-long handle. Carefully, she takes a sample from the brown wastewater that flows past her in the clear basin.

Other girls and boys must have been scared off from afar. Julia does not. On the contrary. The 13-year-old from reiterswiesen chose the clear facility in bad kissingen herself to attend the girls'& to spend boys' day.

But why actually? "Clearworker is an exciting profession, and i wanted to know what it's like. Also because there are not so many women here", grins julia. And she is right. In fact, she is the only young lady among all the men and stands out twice in her pink jacket. "There is not a single woman working in the wastewater department of the clearing plants", regrets department head alexander pusch. Julia was a little uneasy at first: "it's funny to be alone among men. But they are all funny, and I have to laugh a lot."
At the moment julia visits the 7. Class of the anton-kliegl-middle school in bad kissingen. She does not yet know whether she can imagine taking on the job in the future. But she doesn't want to give it up. But now it's time for an inspection tour, during which all the cleaning processes of the system are checked in detail every day.

Study: educational advancement particularly difficult in this country

Study: Educational advancement particularly difficult in this country

This is shown by the german analysis of the fourth eurostudent report now presented by the hochschulinformationssystem (HIS) in hanover. Children from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds find it particularly difficult to get into higher education.

In a comparison of 25 european countries, the federal republic of germany is at the bottom of the league in terms of social education requirements – along with croatia, poland, latvia and slovakia. According to the criteria of the international study, a person with a low educational background is someone who has only completed secondary school or a year of vocational preparation.

Of the eurostudent countries, portugal and turkey are the most successful in attracting children from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds to higher education. In both countries, they make up almost half of the students, at 45 percent.
