Munnerstadt: despite the heat wave, the rough construction site is booming

It is a morder heat. The safety vest, the safety shoes and the helmet on the head don't help to make the stay on the construction site more comfortable either. Nevertheless, harald schafer and thorsten grament are in high spirits. No wonder: at the groundbreaking ceremony a few weeks ago, the two project managers from the bad kissingen district office were standing on a piece of fallow land. Now they are standing on a concrete slab all around the walls are growing high and the ceiling is slowly closing in. And soon in this place will be the rough kitchen of the new vocational training center. Construction work is right on schedule.

Around 30 workers are currently sweating on the huge construction site. Despite the heat, helmets are worn, safety first. Around 40 percent of the cellar concrete wall is already on the completely finished slab. "The ceiling above the basement is 20 percent finished", says thorsten grament. About 85 to 90 percent of the future building will have a basement. All concrete parts in this area are impervious to water. A precautionary inspection in case the groundwater level should rise to an unusual level. In the small area where there is no basement, fountain ring elements will be placed and filled with concrete. This ensures the load-bearing capacity, explains harald schafer. And this variant helps to save costs. At the same time, lightning protection work is underway.

Where the construction site is now, people have already settled thousands of years ago. This circumstance was not quite cheap. The one from 24. October 2016 to 30. April 2018 conducted archaeological investigations will cost between 650,000 to 700,000 euros so. But this is required by law and the necessity was known beforehand. "The excavation documentation and the excavation report are currently being prepared and will probably be available in november, says harald schafer.

The two project managers are proud of the fact that not all of the excavated earth was taken to landfill, as is normally the case. About 4000 cubic meters are temporarily stored on a plot of land next to the construction site. The "monte munnerstadt" as thorsten grament calls it, it saves money. In the end, the rest of the building pit will be filled in and the land will be modeled with this soil. "We are improving the floor material by adding cement and lime", explains harald schafer. No landfill costs have to be paid for the remaining excavated earth, no new material has to be purchased, and last but not least, there are no significant travel costs. 4000 cubic meters were otherwise removed, 4000 cubic meters were newly brought there. With an average load of about twelve cubic meters per truck, 667 trips have been eliminated. Excavation is a common practice in trenching, say the project managers. In the building construction, however, it is a novelty.

For traffic reasons, access to the construction site will now be via seminarstrabe/altstadtweg and not directly via the relief road. According to the project managers, there are no problems. The old town road, which is normally used by the schoolchildren of the gymnasium, is closed; the seminar road has sidewalks on both sides. The summer heat and dryness may be bad for the construction workers, but for the builder it is very convenient. When it rains, the access roads become muddy and may have to be cleaned every day after work. This can be completely omitted at the moment.

The construction boom, however, cannot be avoided. And, according to the project managers, this is naturally more extreme during the construction phase than later during the expansion phase. "We are trying to keep the construction footprint as low as possible." And lena pfister, press officer at the district office of bad kissingen, adds: "we are very grateful for the understanding shown to us by the local residents."

And how does it continue? "At the moment the tenders for other trades are underway", so harald schafer. These mainly include the windows, sun protection, facade, electrical installation, heating and ventilation. Tenders will be invited throughout europe. The shell of the building is to be completed on 22. To be finished in march 2019. Whether there will be a break in construction during the winter depends on the weather. Work can be carried out down to about minus five degrees.

"We are naturally pleased that things are progressing so well", says harry koch, school principal at the BBZ. A construction team from the various departments has been formed at the school. "Our opinion has been taken very seriously", he says. The concerns of the school have been taken into account. The team will be back in action on the first day of school in september. "Then it's about the interior design, we can present our suggestions and wishes."

Joachim schwigon, principal at schonborn grammar school, is equally satisfied with the progress of the construction work. The school is affected by the construction work in several ways due to the closure of the old town road and the impact on the area around the study seminar (all-day branch). He hasn't heard any complaints about the construction noise, even just before the vacations, when the windows were always open. Nevertheless: "we are happy about every day that the BBZ is finished earlier."

The total construction costs for the new BBZ amount to 27.9 million euros, which are shared by the district of bad kissingen as the developer (57.42 percent) and its cooperation partner, caritas schulen ggmbh (42.58 percent). The new vocational training center, which will integrate six schools, is scheduled for completion in september 2020. The move is scheduled for the summer vacations in 2020. The old BBZ on the karlsberg will be demolished in an accelerated process.
